Formed in 1715 as a cavalry regiment, the 9th Lancers have been a vital part of the British Army for over 300 years.

During World War Two, the Lancers tankmen served as part of the famous 8th Army in the First Battle of El Alamein. They were then deployed on the Italian Front to help see out the rest of the war. The gunmen on board were considered the best in the business, with one gunner heard to have taken out nine German tanks in a single day.

143 Lancers lost their lives at the end of World War Two.

Today, they form part of the 9th/12th regiment that has fought in places such as Afghanistan and Iraq.
